Our
Pastor: Rev. James [Jim] Saunders has been our Shepherding
Pastor since September 2001. He has been active in ministry
since graduating from Appalachian Bible College in 1986.
His Education: Pastor Saunders holds
a BA from Appalachian Bible College, WV in Bible and
Pastoral
Theology and
a Master of Arts in Religion from Liberty University,
VA.
His Family: Pastor Saunders has been
married to his wife Janet since May 4th, 1968. They
have three children [all
married] and eleven grandchildren. Janet is a vital
part of the ministry at HRBC. She leads a “Ladies
Bible Study,” is a part of the church’s
fellowship-life, and a solid biblical counselor. She
says that her number one job however is “taking
care of pastor.” Her hobbies are quilting and
scrap-booking.
His Background: Pastor Saunders was
raised in the Southern-tier of New York State. He has
a godly heritage. Both grandparents
on his father’s side “know” Christ
as Savior (He says “know” in the present
tense because they are with God even now living in
His presence). His parents have always been faithful
in their service to Christ and faithful to attend all
services of the church. After graduating from High
School in 1967 he entered the military, serving in
Vietnam and Desert Storm. He retired from the USAF,
June 2001 with 33 years of honorable service. Twenty
three years were active duty, ten as a reserve.
His Hobbies: Pastor Saunders is an
avid sportsman. He hunts [archery, muzzle-loader, and
gun] and fishes. He also
loves his time on the golf course and willingly accepts
any suggestions to improve his game.
His Personality: Pastor Saunders
is a man with an intense love for his God, family,
and country. He would be considered
a choleric, with tremendous energy, and a quick wit.
He is a man who thoroughly enjoys life. Those who sign
for our Deaf Ministry call him “Pastor Enthusiasm.” He
can also be described as a people-person.
His Gifts: Pastor Saunders is obviously
called by God to salvation, and then gifted by God
as a pastor-teacher. He has
an ability to explain God’s Word in a manner
that makes it both exciting and applicable. He is a
leader, administrator, and when necessary a common
laborer. He is a servant!
